Susan Knox

July 16, 1952 — September 12, 2026

Susan Knox, a beloved wife, cherished stepmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026. Born on July 16, 1952, in Dixon, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Don and Mary McBride. Susan’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and a profound connection to nature and family. Growing up in Dixon, Susan developed a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. She met her husband, James "Jim" Ray Knox, in her hometown, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless shared passions. Susan and Jim were married in Dixon, where they lived and nurtured their love for gardening and birdwatching. Their home was always alive with vibrant gardens and the joyful flutter of hummingbirds and other wildlife that came to visit. Susan’s career began as a factory worker in vehicle production, but her true vocation was as a devoted wife and stepmother. When she and Jim moved to Florida, Susan embraced the warmth and sunshine, continuing her love for gardening and nature. She joined a women's golf club, where she found camaraderie and joy in the game. Her love for animals was evident, and although she was a fan of cats—especially Garfield—she happily shared her home with just one feline friend at a time. Known for her warmth and generosity, Susan had a remarkable ability to connect with her large family. She was a loving sister to her two brothers and two sisters and took great joy in keeping close ties with her 10 nieces and nephews, and 14 great-nieces and nephews. Her family was a central part of her life, and she always remembered special occasions and achievements. Susan’s kindness extended to her community and her hobbies. In her later years, she found enjoyment in building civilizations in online games, always eager to learn and explore new things. Her love for bowling in her younger years with Jim was a fond memory, as was the joy they found in tending to their gardens and watching the world go by from their porch. Susan is survived by her loving husband, Jim, and her three stepchildren, who cherished her as their own. Her legacy of love and kindness will be remembered by all who knew her. In honor of Susan’s generous spirit, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. Her life was a beautiful reminder of the power of love, family, and the gentle beauty of nature. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Susan Knox welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
