It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Jennifer Hickman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at her home on April 16, 2026. Susan was born on September 25, 1963, in Los Angeles, California, to the late Carolyn Ann Ford and John Frank Hickman.
Susan was a woman whose essence was defined by her love for family, her infectious smile, and her unwavering kindness. She attended John Muir High School during her adolescent years and graduated from Taft High School, setting the foundation for a life filled with compassion and warmth. Her life was a testament to the power of love and joy, and she found immense delight in singing and dancing, sharing her radiant spirit with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In 1987, Susan married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Newman, in a memorable ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they built a life enriched by the love of their children: Desean, Trayvon, Cituan, Kenneth, LaTiffany, Stacy, Jenny, Michael (Aaron), and Christopher. Susan's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to her 15 cherished grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Susan's legacy is also carried on by her siblings: brothers Darren, James, John Derrick, and sisters Zena, Janet (Denise), and LaTina. Her extended family includes a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom were touched by her boundless generosity and warmth.
She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved son Darren Hickman, sisters Mary Elizabeth and Zeporia, and brother Robert Hickman. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who survive her.
Susan's life will be celebrated on May 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The First Saint John Bible Church, located at 11030 S. Willowbrook Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90059. This service will be an opportunity for all who knew her to come together and honor the beautiful life she led.
