May 16, 1946 — April 20, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude that we announce the passing of Susan Frances Mason Rounds, who peacefully left this world on April 20, 2026, at Prisma Richland Health Hospital, enveloped in the love of her devoted husband and beloved daughter. Born on May 16, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, Susan's 79 years were marked by warmth, dedication, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
Susan was the cherished daughter of Frank Mason and Claire Mason Doyle. Her journey began in New Haven and led her to Burlington, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Burlington High School. She continued her education at the Chandler School for Women in Boston, embarking on a path that would see her excel in various administrative roles with esteemed organizations such as American Express, Elder Beerman Department Store, and Liberty World Travel. Her professionalism and dedication left an indelible mark on her career and colleagues alike.
Susan's life was richly woven with family, community, and faith. A proud member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Elgin, South Carolina, she found immense joy in the fellowship and support of her congregation, particularly during her illness. Her faith was further reflected in her lifelong commitment to the Eastern Star, Billerica Chapter #212, and the Rainbow Girls in Billerica, Massachusetts.
Susan's vibrant spirit was perhaps most evident in her personal passions. She was an exceptional cook, renowned for her apple pies that were as warm and comforting as her embrace. A skilled Bunko player, she cherished the camaraderie of her Bunko groups in Columbia, South Carolina, and Scott Depot, West Virginia. Her love for her neighbors in the Lake Carolina Community was a testament to her generous and sociable nature.
Above all, Susan's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Allen P. Rounds, Jr., her loving daughter, Nicole Massey of Columbia, South Carolina, and her cherished son, Allen P. Rounds, III of Hudson, New Hampshire. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Alexis Rousseau of Orlando, Florida, Bennett Massey and his girlfriend, Katie Allen, Brady Massey, and Maggie Massey, all of Columbia, South Carolina, for whom she played an integral and loving role. She is also survived by her dear sister, Linda Parker of North Andover, MA, and a host of nieces and nephews who were deeply touched by her kindness and wisdom.
In this time of reflection and remembrance, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Prisma Health Primary Care in Columbia, SC, for their exceptional love and support of Susan. Their care and compassion were a source of comfort during her final days.
Susan Frances Mason Rounds leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who were blessed to know her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she held dear.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Susan's memory to Grace Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice, as a tribute to her generous heart and enduring spirit.
