It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Ellen (Denesia) McCrory, a beloved wife, sister, and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026. Born on May 29, 1949, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, Susan's life was a testament to love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community.
Susan was the cherished daughter of the late Don and Lucille Denesia. She was predeceased by her parents, her half-brother Dennis Derricksen, her brother Jimmy, and her brother-in-law Darrel Carlson. Her legacy of love and compassion will forever be remembered by those she leaves behind, including her devoted husband of 35 wonderful years, Mike, with whom she shared an unwavering bond of love and companionship since their marriage on August 25, 1990, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Susan's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by a loving family who cherished her deeply: her sisters Mary Sickler (John), Linda Carlson, and Judy Denesia (Phil Sauser); her brothers David Denesia and Pat Denesia (Becky); her stepchildren Rob McCrory (Bernadette), Charolette McCrory, and Hutchinson McCrory; and her adored grandchildren Megan Petersen and Kaylin Petersen, who brought endless joy to her life. She also leaves behind three precious grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
A dedicated and hard-working woman, Susan graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1967. She pursued her education at Kearney State College for a year before setting her roots in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her professional journey was marked by her dedication and skill, having worked at Farmers Mutual Insurance, KLMS Radio, and finally at Woods Aitken Law Firm for 18 years, where she made lasting contributions and friendships.
Susan was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church, where her faith and community spirit shone brightly. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her support of charitable organizations such as Matt Talbot and the Lincoln Food Bank.
Beyond her professional and community engagements, Susan found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She relished the time spent with her family and friends, embraced the serenity of golfing, and delighted in the playful companionship of her beloved Shipoos, Stella and Lulu. Susan and Mike shared a passion for travel, creating beautiful memories together on their journeys across Europe and the United States after retirement.
Susan's warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of crossing her path. As we mourn her loss, we celebrate the remarkable life she led—a life full of love, laughter, and cherished moments.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating Susan's life, details of which will be shared in due course. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory can be made to Matt Talbot or the Lincoln Food Bank, organizations close to her heart.
