Susan E. Kelly
October 22, 1936 — June 12, 2026
In loving memory of Susan E. Kelly, we gather to honor a life full of warmth, dedication, and boundless love. Susan was born on October 22, 1936, in the charming town of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Her journey on this earth concluded peacefully on June 12, 2026, as she was surrounded by the tender presence of her son at the hospital, offering her comfort in those final moments.
Susan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Curtis Kelly, whose memory she cherished deeply, and her eldest son, Brent Burgin, whose spirit remained a poignant presence in her heart. Her legacy of love and resilience continues through her surviving son, Michael, and his devoted wife, Marsha Moody, who reside in Archer Lodge. They were a constant source of joy and companionship in her later years.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Susan's heart and home were always open to her family, which includes five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward her legacy of kindness, humor, and an unyielding zest for life.
Susan devoted 30 years to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, where she excelled as a supervisor. Her colleagues remember her as a guiding force, whose dedication and integrity left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
In her personal time, Susan found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her garden was a vibrant testament to her nurturing spirit, and her kitchen was ever-filled with the delightful aromas of her baking, a skill she lovingly shared with her family. Her two faithful companions, Buddy and Peewee, were her cherished canine friends, offering her companionship and joy throughout the years.
A memorial service celebrating Susan's remarkable life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 5:00 PM. As we gather to remember her, we invite all who knew her to share in the joy of her memory and the warmth of her spirit, which touched so many lives.
Though Susan's physical presence is no longer with us, the love she gave and the values she imparted will continue to resonate through the generations she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
