Susan J. Clark

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Susan Bitters Clark, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully at her home on September 30, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on June 24, 1954, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Susan was a light in the lives of all who knew her.
Susan was the cherished daughter of Edward and Helen Bitters, who preceded her in death, along with her dear husband, Robert W. Clark, her uncle Walter Bitters, and other beloved family members. Susan and Robert shared 36 wonderful years of marriage, having tied the knot on January 9, 1976, in Pittsburgh. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter, and raised two wonderful children.
A devoted employee of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Susan was known for her giving and caring nature. Her warm smile and delightful sense of humor brought joy to many, and she had a unique gift for making others feel truly cared for. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and compassion.
Susan is survived by her loving sister, Mary Carlisle and her husband Edward, and her children, Robert Clark and his wife Charity, and Karen Clark-Tigney and her husband Darrell. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Angela Cortaz-Clark, Robert M., Caleb, and Cameron, and a doting great-grandmother to little Aurora Janoss, Aunt to Chris Carlise. Her family also included her beloved pets, Ella, Steelah, and an aquarium full of 150 fish friends, all of whom brought great joy to her life.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Suncrest Hospice for their compassionate care during Susan's final days. Their kindness will always be remembered.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Susan's life at a service on October 5, 2026, Visitation 6-7 PM and a service at 7 PM at Gmiter Funeral Home, located at 119 S 15th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
Susan's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. Rest in peace, dear Susan—forever in our hearts.
