Suey Mee Kwong, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on February 28, 1928, in China, Suey Mee' journey through life was one marked by love, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Suey Mee was the daughter of Wong Yen Poa and Chan Ngan Yee and was predeceased by her loving husband, Mun Gim Kwong, with whom she shared a beautiful life and partnership, raising their family together. She was also preceded in death by three of her children, May Lee, Peter Kwong, and Susan Quon, as well as her younger brothers, Wong Pong Kit and Wong Kong Kit.
Despite the loss and hardships she faced, Suey remained a pillar of strength for her surviving children, Donna Lau (Felix) and Janet Crouch (Harvey). Her nurturing spirit and gentle guidance were a constant source of comfort for her family. She was also a proud grandmother (Poo-Poo) to ten grandchildren: Phillip, Ellen, Margaret, Cindy, Johnny, Michael, Christina, Jamie, Eric, and Tracy, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. Additionally, Suey Mee leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished her warmth and kindness.
Suey's career was one of dedication and hard work. She began as a housewife and seamstress, roles that she embraced with creativity and skill. Later, she worked alongside her husband as a dishwasher in their restaurant business in Oakland, where her diligence and commitment contributed to the family’s success. She retired in 1999, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance and dedication.
In her leisure time, Suey found joy in sewing and knitting, crafting beautiful pieces that were treasured by her loved ones. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she delighted in cooking and experimenting with new recipes, often sharing these meals with family and friends. Suey also loved traveling with her children, creating memories that would be cherished for a lifetime.
Suey Mee Kwong's life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
