Stony Leon Achziger

Stony Leon Achziger, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at the age of 81 at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, after a courageous three-month battle following a stroke. Born on June 27, 1945, in Denver, Colorado, Stony was the cherished son of the late Louella Elizabeth (Betty) Foster and Jacob William (Bill) Achziger. Stony is survived by his younger siblings, Jean Besta and her husband John and Leonard Achziger. Stony was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Janet Kay Schwarck, whom he married on December 18, 1965. Their loving partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them, and together they laid a strong foundation for their family, raising two sons, Glenn Achziger (Karen) and Wayne Allen Achziger (Joyleyn). Stony’s legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Cody Wayne Achziger (Taylor), Bryson Lee Achziger (Mariah), Natasha Marlenn Achziger (Timi), Kelsey Joy Achziger (Cade), Scarlett Achziger, and his seven great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. After graduating from Littleton High School in Littleton, Colorado, Stony served his country with honor in the US Army in Anchorage, Alaska, from 1965 to 1969. Following his military service, Stony and Janet settled in Fort Collins, Colorado, where they built a life filled with love and laughter. Stony began his career as a butcher, but soon found his true calling as an electronic technician at Hewlett-Packard in Fort Collins, where he worked diligently for 30 years until his well-deserved retirement. Stony was a man of many passions. An avid diver, he delighted in exploring the underwater wonders of the world, often accompanied by Janet, who shared his love of travel. Together, they cherished their visits to Estes Park, Colorado, and the cabin Stony lovingly built with his own hands at Crystal Lakes. Stony's love for adventure was matched by his fondness for cycling around Fort Collins and his remarkable talent for restoring and repairing anything he set his mind to. He was also very active in his church where he offered his time helping feed the high school students of Rocky Mountain high school and various other volunteer work throughout his life. Despite his quiet demeanor, Stony's heart overflowed with love for his family. He was often found at the heart of family gatherings, playing on the ground with his grandchildren, and supporting them at their sporting events, just as he had done for his sons. His unwavering dedication and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. A service celebrating Stony's life will be held on August 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Peace with Christ Lutheran Church, located at 1412 West Swallow Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peace with Christ Lutheran Church in his memory. The Achziger family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Medical Center of the Rockies and the Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital for their compassionate care during Stony’s final months. His memory will forever be cherished by all whose lives he touched.
