Steven Wayne Avre
December 1, 1953 — August 1, 2026
Steven Wayne Avre, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 72. Born on December 1, 1953, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Steve was the cherished son of Wayne and Geraldine (Brolin) Avre. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim Avre, but leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be carried on by his family and friends.
Throughout his life, Steve was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and the innate ability to make everyone feel at ease. His humor and generosity were as boundless as his love for his family. He shared over fifty years of a happy marriage with his best friend, Deb (Gallegos) Avre, whom he married on November 28, 1975. Their union was a testament to enduring love, filled with laughter and shared adventures.
Steve was the proud father of two daughters, Melissa Avre and Melanie Avre, and the adoring grandfather to five grandchildren: Acza Marques, Deven (Cassandra) Knight, Rylee Fuentes, Mason Snyder, and Nathan Lucken. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, William and Mikaila, who brought immense joy to his life.
A graduate of Washington High School in Sioux Falls, Steve furthered his education in diesel mechanics in Lincoln, Nebraska. His career took him from a memorable tenure at John Deere to a second career in custom home builds, where his craftsmanship and dedication were well-respected.
An active member of The Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Delta, Colorado, Steve found great joy and fulfillment in his faith community. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing, camping, and boating, often accompanied by his family and friends. He took great pleasure in being involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always making time for them and creating lasting memories.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Deb Avre; his daughters, Melissa and Melanie; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Mike Avre, Rich Avre, and Sue Avre. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A service to honor Steve's life will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 306 Mesa Street, Delta, CO 81416.
