It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Steven Johnson Sr., who departed this life on February 19, 2026, at Doctors Hospital of Augusta after a brief illness. Born on June 30, 1948, in Rochester, NY, Steven was a beacon of kindness and generosity whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. Steven was the cherished son of the late Jeffrey and Mary Johnson, and he shared a close bond with his siblings, the late Barbara Johnson-Brown and Matthew Johnson. On June 13, 1970, he married the love of his life, Caroline Jeffries-Johnson, and together they built a life filled with warmth and joy, raising two wonderful children, Steven Johnson Jr. and Annette Smith (married to Timothy Smith). Steven and Caroline's 50-year marriage was a testament to enduring love, and they are now reunited in eternity. Steven's professional life was marked by his unwavering commitment to public service. For 25 years, he served The City of New York with distinction, leaving a legacy of dedication and integrity. Outside of his career, Steven was a devoted member of the New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment. His church family was a significant part of his life, and he cherished each moment spent in fellowship and service. An avid fisherman, Steven found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His witty sense of humor and vibrant presence at gatherings were gifts to everyone who knew him. Whether casting a line into a tranquil river or sharing a hearty laugh with friends and family, Steven's spirit was indomitable and filled with light. Steven's legacy lives on through his children, Steven Jr. and Annette, and his three cherished grandchildren, Taneigier Byrd, Paige Smith, and Derek Smith, all of whom brought immense pride and happiness to his life. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, thoughts, and prayers during this time of bereavement. Your kindness and support have been a great comfort, and the Johnson family is profoundly grateful for the community's compassion and generosity. Special thanks are extended to their church family, whose unwavering support has lightened their burden and will always be remembered with heartfelt appreciation. In honor of Steven's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life and legacy. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold onto the memories of his love, laughter, and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. May Steven Johnson Sr. rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
