Steven Jay Hansen

March 9, 1952 — April 2, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Jay Hansen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Steven departed this world peacefully at home on April 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 9, 1952, in Spencer, Iowa, Steven lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Steven was the cherished son of Ernest Leroy Hansen and Dorothy Lorraine Flaharty Hansen, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, LaDonna J. Hansen, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, adventure, and family. Together, they built a home filled with joy and raised three wonderful children: Eric S. Hansen (Katie), Emily B. Ostert (Adam), and Ross M. Hansen. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Lilly, Olivia, and Ian Ostert, and William and Silvia Hansen, who brought immense joy to his life. Steven shared a close bond with his brother, Lindell E. Hansen (Barb), and his sister, Marcia R. Jorgensen (Dwain). He was also loved by his sisters-in-law, Marlena K. Langner (Leonard) and Beth A. Miller (Dale), who were dear to his heart. A graduate of Terril High School in 1970, Steven pursued his passion for history and education at Buena Vista College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history education and coaching in 1974. His commitment to community was evident through his active involvement in the Terril United Methodist Church and the Sons of Legionnaires for over 50 years. Steven’s dedication extended to coaching, where he left a lasting impact on many young lives through his leadership of children's little league teams. Steven was known for his quick wit and warm smile—a true beacon of kindness and generosity. Always ready with a joke, his presence could lighten any room, making all feel welcome. His love for the outdoors was unparalleled, particularly his fondness for fishing and the camaraderie of deer hunting. For Steven, these activities were more than hobbies; they were opportunities to connect with others and create cherished memories. A service to celebrate Steven's life will be held on April 15, 2026, at the Terril United Methodist Church, located at 302 S. State Street, Terril, IA 51364. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of the Spencer Hospital for their exceptional care during Steven’s final days. In honoring Steven's memory, we remember a man who lived with purpose, loved deeply, and laughed often. His spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed.
