It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven J. Gates, who left this world on September 13, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 22, 1959, in San Bernardino, California, Steve's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and generosity. Steve was the beloved son of Doris and Clarence Gates. He was preceded in death by his daughter Shannon Keuffler, his mother Doris Gates, and his sister Pat Johnson. He is survived by his devoted wife Becky Gates, whom he married in 1976, and his siblings Rick (Roz) Gates, Kelly (Sally) Gates, and Kathy (Roger) Stodola, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly. Steve's life was marked by service and dedication. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1976 to 1979, a period which instilled in him values of discipline and camaraderie. These qualities were evident throughout his life, in both his personal and professional endeavors. A man of many interests, Steve found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman who found peace and tranquility on the water. His passion for restoring cars was not just a hobby, but a testament to his meticulous nature and love for bringing new life to old treasures. Steve's garage was not only a workshop but a place of reflection and inspiration. Steve's kindness and generosity touched many lives. He was a man who believed in giving without expecting anything in return, and his warm spirit and gentle smile will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, and his legacy of compassion will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. A celebration of Steve's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM- 3PM at the Moose Lodge, located at 40 E Newton St., Rice Lake, WI, 54868. Family, friends, and all whose lives Steve touched are invited to attend and share in the memories of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Steve's honor. This gesture will continue Steve's legacy of generosity and love for others.
