Steven Harris

June 13, 1965 — April 13, 2026

It is with profound sadness and a sense of deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Steven Harris, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on April 13, 2026. Born on June 13, 1965, in the sunny town of Long Beach, California, Steven was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Steven was the beloved son of Constance Harris, who predeceased him, along with his dear Aunt Linda. Despite these early losses, Steven carried forward the strength and love imparted by his family, embodying the resilience and kindness taught to him by his mother and extended relatives. A proud graduate of Milikan High School, Class of 1985, Steven went on to dedicate his professional life to serving the community as a bus driver for Long Beach Transit. His career, which spanned several decades until his retirement in 2017, was marked by his commitment to safety and his infectious smile that brightened the day of every passenger who boarded his bus. Steven was a man of simple joys and profound passions. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, his enthusiasm for football was infectious. He was also an avid player of blackjack, a skillful fisherman, and an enthusiastic traveler who relished the thrill of cruises and the beauty of meeting new people. His collection of cigars was a testament to his appreciation for the finer things in life. Known affectionately as the "Gentle Giant," Steven’s quick wit and funny personality endeared him to many. He had a natural ability to make others laugh and was always ready to have a good time. Music and sports were his lifeblood, and he was the life of every party, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went. Steven’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Anna Loya, and his cherished children, Aminah and Kinnie Varney, and sons Elijah and Ahmad Avery. His legacy lives on in his three beloved grandchildren, Kinnie Varney Jr., Zyon Varney, and Kahlil Varney, who were the apples of his eye and the stars of his heart. He also leaves behind his beloved Aunt Susie, Uncle Michael, and a host of extended family and close friends who were like family to him. In honor of Steven’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life. While we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we find comfort in the memories and love he leaves behind. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have taken the time to support and comfort them during this difficult period. Your love and kindness are a testament to the many lives Steven touched. In the spirit of Steven’s love for life, we encourage everyone to cherish each moment, embrace laughter, and hold your loved ones close. As we bid farewell to Steven Harris, we hold onto the joy he brought into the world and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.
