It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Charles Kaufmann, who left this world on July 23, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on August 21, 1952, in the serene town of Coos Bay, Steven was the beloved oldest son of Heinz Kaufmann and Louise——.His journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an unyielding dedication to his family and community.
Steven grew up in a bustling household, sharing countless adventures with his siblings. He was predeceased by his father, Heinz, his stepmom, Diane, his sister Susan Stump, and his brothers Gary and Richard Kaufmann. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving brothers Ron, Jeff Kaufmann and Charles —-his sister Kari Mann, and his nephews Chris Kaufmann and Ryley Mann. His nieces, Jessica Stump, Ashton Rodrigue, and Lacey Porter, also carry forward his legacy of kindness and humor.
A proud alumnus of Reedsport High School, Class of 1972, Steven went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1974. After his military service, he worked alongside his father Heinz as a skilled carpenter at Kaufmann Homes, where he honed his craft and built not just structures, but a community of friendships and trust.
Steven's life was rich with passions and pursuits. An avid gun collector, he found joy in range shooting and attending gun shows. He cherished the moments spent traveling to visit family, and his heart found peace at the family cabin at Loon Lake. Known for his quick wit and constant jokes, Steven had an innate ability to bring smiles and laughter to those around him. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, never shying away from a project or a challenge, embodying a spirit of generosity and warmth.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Steven's life, reflecting his personal wishes for an intimate farewell. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, celebrating Steven's legacy of giving and compassion.
Steven Charles Kaufmann will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his vibrant spirit and the love he shared with all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift us, reminding us of the importance of family, friendship, and a life well-lived.
