Steven Charles Foster

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Steven Charles Foster, who left us on August 18, 2026, in the comfort of his family. Born on June 21, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa, Steve lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. Steve was the beloved son of the late Charles and Ruth Foster. He was predeceased by his brother Tim and his cherished paternal grandparents, Charles and Bertha Foster, as well as his maternal grandparents, Albert and Alma Henneman. His legacy of love and kindness lives on through his surviving family, including his devoted wife, Valerie (Tonelli) Foster, whom he married on August 31, 1974. Together, they cultivated a life filled with love and joy, raising four sons: Scott, Sean (Gina), Shane, and Sloan (Lisa). Steve's legacy continues through his five beloved grandchildren: Morgen(Hunter) Tristan, Char Lee, Walter, and Ellis, Kristi and Matt Porter (sister and brother-in-law) several nieces and nephews sisters and brothers -in-laws A proud graduate of Waukee High School in 1973, Steve embarked on a fruitful career with Hy-Vee Food Stores. Over three decades, he rose from a part-time grocery clerk to a store director, serving in various locations across Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Kansas. After retiring, his passion for giving back led him to the Ballard School system, where he worked as a bus driver and transportation router, impacting the lives of countless young students. Steve's love for sports was evident throughout his life. He found joy in coaching his sons in baseball and supporting them in go-karting and stock car racing. A devoted fan, he relished in watching his children and grandchildren participate in the sports they loved. Steve was also an avid boating and fishing enthusiast, cherishing peaceful days spent at the lake. Known for his friendly and welcoming nature, Steve never met a stranger. His home was always open, and he was quick to lend a helping hand or share a laugh. He effortlessly connected with people, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. A celebration of Steve's life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Nord-Kelsom Senior Center, located at 204 West 5th Street, Huxley, Iowa. All who knew and loved Steve are welcome to join us in honoring his remarkable life. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers at the University of Iowa Health Center for their compassionate care and support during Steve's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart. Steve's indomitable spirit, love for life, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed but forever cherished. His memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
