Steven Arthur Rogers, a talented musician, and distinguished veteran, passed away peacefully at the Kline Galland Hospice in Seattle, Washington, on July 28, 2026. Born on February 11, 1951, in Seattle, Washington, Steven was the son of Fredrick Rogers and Velma Finney. Steven's life was a testament to his passion for music, community service, and unwavering faith. A graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School in 1969, he was celebrated for his exceptional musical talent, particularly as a brass musician who held first chair in the school's music program. Upon graduation, Steven enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with honor as a Sergeant in the Air Force Band. His dedication to his country was evident as he traveled nationally, performing Taps for fallen soldiers of the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Steven continued his education at Seattle Central and Edmonds Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. His career as a telecommunications engineer at GTE/Verizon was marked by innovation and dedication. Steven was instrumental in developing the single-sign-on technology used nationwide, and his commitment to community service earned him the Governor's Award for Volunteer of the Year in Washington State. Steven's life was enriched by his deep Christian faith and a wide array of hobbies. He was a gifted composer and arranger of music and a master craftsman, skilled in woodworking, stained glass, and drawing. His love for flying kites was a simple joy that brought him great happiness. Those who knew Steven remember him as a servant leader, always generous with his time, talent, and treasure. He was a devoted and loyal friend, cherished for his kindness and unwavering support. Steven was blessed with two beloved daughters from his first marriage, which ended in divorce. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and dedication. A Military Honors Commital Service will be held for Steven on August 17, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, located at 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society (National Home Office), located in Atlanta, GA, are requested as a tribute to Steven's life and his enduring spirit. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the staff at Chateau Bothell Landing, the Veterans Administration - VA Medical Center in Seattle, Providence Compassus at Home, Kline Galland Hospice, and Barton Family Funeral Services for their compassionate care and support during Steven's final months.
