In Loving Memory

Steven Fortunato
May 12, 1947 — October 11, 2026
Steven Fortunato returned to our Lord, on October 11, 2026, after a long courageous fight. Born in Medford, MA, on May 12, 1947, Steven lived a life filled with love, adventure, and service to others.
Steven was the Cherished Son of the late Carmine J. Fortunato and Florence (McCormick) Fortunato. He was a devoted father to his children Jason J. Fortunato; Stacy (Fortunato) Knickle and her husband, Jayson; and Scott Fortunato and his partner, Brooke Mahlo. He was also the beloved "Gramps" of his only grandchild, Austin Knickle. Steven was the Dear Brother of Nancy Garrett, and her late husband, Allan; Brother Joseph Fortunato, and his wife, Joyce; the late Linda Costello, and her surviving husband, James; and Brother Anthony Fortunato and his wife Jennifer. Steven's memory will also be remembered by his nieces and nephews: Sandra Lyn, Randy, Jimmy, Jennifer, Sophia, and Vincent.
Steven graduated from Malden Catholic High School and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, marking the beginning of a remarkable career as a pharmacist that spanned almost four decades. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own several pharmacies over his career, "American Discount Pharmacy," with his main store being on Salem St Medford, MA. Steven's work ethic and dedication to helping others made a significant impact on his community.
Beyond his professional life, Steven was an avid offshore and deep-sea fisherman; as well as a proud boat owner. He was a self-proclaimed “formidable” poker player; and per his family, a "mostly skilled" chess and cribbage player. He was a passionate fan of all Boston sports teams, but most especially his New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. A true adventure seeker, he was a experienced skier, horseback rider and frequent traveler. Steven found a simple peace and joy in the natural beauty of Cape Cod, where he spent his retirement years in Pocasset, MA. Music was another one of Steven's passions; with the Rolling Stones being at the top of his list!
Friends and Family are warmly invited to attend visiting hours at the Della Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St, Medford, MA 11am-1pm on Tuesday, October 20th. A service will begin at 1pm; followed by a formal burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St, Peabody, MA.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Woodbriar Health Center in Wilmington, MA, for their dedicated care of Steven over the past five years.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Steven's memory be made to Veterans organizations.
