In 1968, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. Steve was deployed during the Vietnam War, where he specialized as a hydraulic engineer, a role that showcased his remarkable technical skills and unwavering dedication. His service continued to shape his life's path and values. After serving honorably, Steve transitioned his talents to the civilian sector, where he built a distinguished career as a specialized hydraulic engineer. His expertise was sought after by several major companies, including Metro Container, Cincinnati Hydraulics, and Sun Chemical. Steve's work was not just a profession, but a passion, as he loved to tinker with mechanical projects, finding joy and satisfaction in solving complex problems with innovative solutions. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve was a stalwart pillar in his community. His involvement with the local Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) was a testament to his enduring dedication to his fellow veterans. Steve played an active role in organizing special events and programs, providing essential clothing and medical equipment to those in need. His contributions were a beacon of hope and support, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to service. Steve's heart was always with his family, and he found immense joy in their company. He is survived by his devoted wife, Christine Smith, who was his steadfast partner and confidante. His legacy lives on through his beloved children: Shannon Hamrick and her husband Mark, Seneca Taylor and her husband James, and Sarah Coriell and her husband Andrew. Steve was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his later years.
