It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Thomas Powers, a cherished husband, devoted stepfather, beloved brother, and loyal friend. Stephen left this world too soon, at the age of 55, on March 4, 2026, due to an automobile accident. Born on September 13, 1970, in the quaint town of Liberty, NY, Stephen's life was a testament to love, kindness, and dedication to those he held dear. Stephen was the son of the late Thomas Roberts Powers and Janet Dorothy Powers, who undoubtedly greeted him with open arms in the afterlife. He was also a cherished stepson to Gwyn Powers, who survives him. Stephen's life was enriched by a loving family, including his devoted wife, Kristin Powers, whom he married on June 25, 2011. Together, they crafted 14 years of beautiful memories. Stephen was a proud and loving stepfather to Paige Suarez and Connor Ernst, whom he adored deeply. Stephen's siblings, Donna McKinney (Jim), Nancy Harris (Royal), Lisa Feldman, Becca (Nate), Amy (Paul), and John (Stephanie), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, will forever hold him in their hearts. His friendships were treasures to him, and he maintained these bonds with unwavering loyalty, kindness, and warmth. A proud alumnus of John Overton High School, Stephen graduated in 1988 before earning his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts with a major in English from the University of Tennessee in 1992. During his college years, Stephen demonstrated his academic prowess as a member of prestigious honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Beta Phi, and the Golden Key National Honor Society. Stephen's professional journey was marked by diligence and dedication. He began his career as a Regional Field Service Coordinator at Whittle Communications in 1992, and over the years, he held various roles, including Operations Dispatch Supervisor at Perfection Services, Supply Chain Manager at Ritway, Logistics Surplus Director at Green Demolitions, Service Logistics Manager at Hirsch Solutions, and Dispatcher at Yancey Rents. His contributions in these roles were characterized by a relentless work ethic and a genuine passion for service. An accomplished trumpet player, Stephen once proudly marched in the Rose Parade during his high school years. His love for travel and cultural exchange led him to become an exchange student in Germany, where he formed a lifelong friendship with Carsten, who later became an honorary part of Stephen's family. Stephen's love for sports was legendary among his friends and family. A devoted fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and the LA Dodgers, Stephen's enthusiasm for sports was infectious. For over 30 years, he participated in fantasy baseball and football leagues, nurturing friendships that became like family. He also had a fervent love for sand volleyball, a passion that kept him active and vibrant throughout his life. Stephen's love for animals was evident in the tender care he provided to his pets, treating them as cherished members of his family. His zest for life was matched only by his love for good food, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. A service in Stephen's honor will be held on May 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Anthony's Episcopal Church, located at 174 St. Anthony Dr., Winder, GA 30680.
