March 19, 1964 — May 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen Harley Janney, fondly known as Steve, who left this world unexpectedly on May 29, 2026. Born on March 19, 1964, in Martinsville, Virginia, Steve graced the world with his presence for 62 vibrant years, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and an unyielding dedication to those he cherished.
Steve was the beloved son of the late Marvin Janney and Victoria Frazier, both of whom have predeceased him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deanna Janney, with whom he shared 33 beautiful years of marriage, a testament to a love that knew no bounds. Together, they created a family filled with warmth and affection, welcoming their children, Brittney Mitkowski (Luke) and Brent Birdsinger, into their hearts.
A proud grandfather, Steve adored his six grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. He was also a cherished brother to Marvin Dale Janney (Tammy) and Kelli Franco (Jim), and a beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve dedicated nearly 20 years of his professional life to Spectrum Stone Designs as a Granite Fabricator, where his craftsmanship and attention to detail were unmatched. He took immense pride in his work, transforming raw stone into masterpieces, and forming enduring friendships with colleagues who became like family. His work was not merely a career, but a passion that spoke to his artistic spirit.
Known for his quick wit and a warm smile that could light up any room, Steve had an extraordinary gift for making those around him feel at ease and valued. His kindness, generosity, and genuine concern for others were the hallmarks of his character, touching countless lives and leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
In keeping with the selfless way he lived, Steve's final act on this earth was one of profound generosity as an organ donor, offering hope and the gift of life to others in need.
A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 2:30 PM at the Concord Community Center, located at 327 Midgett Farm Road, Concord, Virginia 24538. Friends and family are invited to gather together to honor a life so beautifully lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Steve's memory to Angels of Assisi, an organization that embodies the compassion and care that Steve held dear.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find solace in the countless memories of joy and laughter he leaves behind. Steve Janney's spirit will forever shine brightly in the lives of those he touched, and his legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.
