Stephen Mark Dwelley

Stephen Mark Dwelley, cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 30, 2026, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. Born on June 11, 1957, in Saginaw, Michigan, Steve was the beloved son of Hugh and Ruth Dwelley. He was 69 years old. Steve was a man of strength and resilience, qualities he displayed throughout his life and especially during his illness. His enduring spirit and bravery were an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by his loving parents, his cherished wife Brigitte, and his great, great nephew Kayden Wesley, whose memories he held dear. Like his mother, Ruth, Steve was an active member of St.Andrews Episcopal Church in Darien GA., singing in the Choir, helping with the youth ministry and Steve also was a member, and worked as a carpenter with The Christian Men Fellowship, building handicap ramps for disabled folks in the surrounding communities. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1978 to 1992, a period during which he demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment. Steve served on active duty in The Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm in 1991. His service left an indelible mark on those who served alongside him and the many lives he touched during his military career. Family was central to Steve’s life. He is survived by his devoted sister Rise’ Jane Hart and her husband Thomas of Catlett, Virginia. He was a beloved uncle to his nieces, Kaylene Farmer and her husband Joe of Greenwood, Wisconsin, and Alexis Russell of Warrenton, Virginia. His great niece Kristian, great nephews Brandon, Joseph, and Jordan, and great, great nieces Elizabeth, Catherine, Addelina and Cheyenne, along with great, great nephew Jerry IV, will forever cherish the memories of their dear Uncle Steve, whose kindness and warmth were constants in their lives. Steve's memory will be honored in a service on August 11, 2026, at 10:30, at St.Andrews Episcopal Church, 310 Greene Street, Vernon Square, Darien, GA 31305. Family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Steve’s generous spirit and his desire to help others. As we say goodbye to Steve, we remember him for his laughter, his wisdom, and his extraordinary ability to make those around him feel valued and loved. Though he has left us, his legacy of courage, love, and service will remain in our hearts forever.
