Born on September 28, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, Stephen was a cherished son of the late James Wilbanks and Anna Gross. He was a beacon of love and joy in the lives of all who knew him.
Stephen's life was a testament to hard work and dedication. A proud graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in 1966, he went on to build a fulfilling career as a skilled carpenter. His meticulous craftsmanship and ability to transform raw materials into works of art reflected his passion for his trade and left a lasting mark on the community he served.
On October 16, 1999, Stephen married the love of his life, Carolyn Y. Brown. Their marriage was a beautiful journey of companionship and love, one that inspired all who encountered them. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of Stephen's delicious cooking and baking.
A man of multifaceted talents and interests, Stephen had a knack for fixing things, a hobby that brought him immense satisfaction and joy. His humor and wit were legendary, always capable of lighting up a room and bringing smiles to faces. Jazz music flowed through his veins, a soundtrack to the many wonderful moments shared with family and friends. Stephen’s heart was big enough to encompass a love for animals and an unwavering support for his beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Stephen was preceded in death by his dear brothers, Charles, James, and Claude; his sister, Delores; and his beloved daughter, Sherron. His memory will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Carolyn; his devoted sons, Stephen Jr. (Dasha) and Antoine (Robin); his daughters, Shawn and Patricia; and his brother, Stanley. He leaves behind two precious grandchildren, Tiffany and Stephen, and a great-grandchild, Jayce, who brought unparalleled joy to his life. His extended family of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends will continue to celebrate and honor his remarkable life.
Stephen's enduring legacy is not only in the structures he built but in the lives he touched and the love he spread. As we say goodbye to a gentle soul, we remember him for his kindness, his laughter, and the indelible impact he made on our hearts. His memory will forever resonate in the stories shared and the love carried forward by those who knew him.
A celebration of Stephen's life will be held to honor his memory and the profound influence he had on those around him.
