August 26, 1943 — March 27, 2026

Stephen Charles Selby, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on March 27, 2026, after a valiant seven-year battle with cancer. Born on August 26, 1943, in Pennsylvania to Elwood and Lilian Selby, Stephen lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love. Stephen's journey through life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his family, community, and country. A proud veteran, Stephen served in the US Army and National Guard, exemplifying courage and patriotism. After his military service, Stephen dedicated his career to law enforcement, retiring from the Greer Police Department after many years of protecting and serving his community with integrity and fortitude. Stephen's passion for service extended beyond his career; he devoted his time to the people of Greer as a respected and diligent member of the Greenville County Council, serving two terms. His leadership, kindness, and vision for a better community left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside him. A man of deep faith, Stephen was an active member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church, where he found great joy in worship and fellowship. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through his challenges and triumphs alike. Stephen's commitment to his church and congregation was unwavering, and he cherished the bonds formed within this loving community. Stephen's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, whose partnership and love were the bedrock of his life. Together, they raised three sons, Timothy (Harriet), Peter (Jennifer), and Mark (Stacey), who were his pride and joy. His legacy of love continues through his cherished grandchildren, Cooper, Reagan, Matthew, Amelia, and Austin, who brought light and laughter into his days. Stephen is also survived by his brothers, Phillip and Jonathan, and his sister, Lois, who shared in his life's journey with love and camaraderie. He was predeceased by his dear brothers, David and Danny, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Stephen cherished time spent with his family, and his home was a place of warmth, laughter, and love—a testament to the life he built with Judy. His dedication to his family and community was matched only by his love for them, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. A service to celebrate Stephen's life will be held on April 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wood Mortuary, located at 300 W Poinsett St, Greer, SC 29650. Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather to honor a life well-lived and to remember the remarkable man who touched so many lives.
