It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Stephen Anthony Margulis, beloved husband, father, and friend to many, who departed this life on April 25, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on April 21, 1948, in Buffalo, New York, Stephen lived a life rich in love, dedication, and service to others. Stephen was the cherished son of Doris Katz and Dr. Sidney Margulis, who instilled in him the values of compassion and perseverance. As a brother, he shared a special bond with his late brother, Daniel Margulis, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life. Stephen's academic journey began at Coral Gables High School, where he graduated with honors in 1966. His love for learning led him to the University of Florida, where he pursued studies in music and pre-medicine, graduating in 1970. Driven by a passion for justice and advocacy, Stephen earned his J.D. degree from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston in 1976. In 1980, Stephen married the love of his life, Janis Greenspan, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy, adventure, and unconditional love. Stephen was a devoted father to his sons, David and Jared Margulis, who were the pride of his life. Professionally, Stephen made a significant impact as the Development Director at PACE in Miami, where he was instrumental in bringing the arts to life in the community. His dedication to music extended to the Concert Association of Miami, where he worked tirelessly to nurture the musical landscape of South Florida. Stephen's legal expertise was not confined to the courtroom; he was a guardian angel to disabled veterans, offering his services to ensure their well-being. He generously volunteered with various arts organizations, empowering artists to secure funding for their creative endeavors. Stephen was a respected member of the Florida Bar Association, Broward County Guardianship Association, Florida Guardianship Association, and Friends of Chamber Music. His commitment to these organizations reflected his unwavering dedication to his community and the betterment of others. Music was the soundtrack of Stephen's life. A talented musician, he played both the French Horn and electric bass guitar, finding harmony in every note. His love for music was matched only by his love for travel, as he believed deeply in the importance of acquiring experiences over possessions. Stephen's personal qualities were as vibrant as his melodies. He was kind, caring, and exceedingly generous. His heart was open to all, always ready to help those in need, even to the extent of welcoming a foster child into his home and loving her as his own daughter. Stephen's selflessness and boundless capacity for love were evident in every aspect of his life. In honor of Stephen's life and legacy, the family requests that donations be made to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, an organization reflecting his lifelong commitment to the arts and education. Stephen Anthony Margulis will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, music, and service will resonate in the hearts of his family and friends forever. May his memory be a blessing and his soul rest in eternal peace.
