Stella Virginia “Sugar” Caldwell

December 27, 1962 — May 19, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stella Virginia “Sugar” Caldwell, who left this world on May 16, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on December 27, 1962, Stella graced the lives of those around her with a unique blend of warmth, humor, and indomitable spirit. Stella was the beloved daughter of the late Hester Shirlene Coles and Richard Caldwell, whose love and guidance shaped the extraordinary woman she became. She was predeceased by her cherished life partner, Jeffery Cody, and her dear nephew, Timothy Coles. Though they have passed, their memories and love remained ever-present in Stella’s heart. A proud graduate of East High School, Stella's life was enriched by her deep connections with family and friends. Her vibrant personality and infectious laughter were the life of every gathering, her presence lighting up any room she entered. Stella delighted in the simple joys of life—cooking sumptuous meals that brought people together and traveling to explore the beauty of the world around her. Stella's heart was as grand as her personality, filled with kindness and a sincere desire to uplift those around her. Her intelligence and humor were matched only by her sweetness and the warmth she extended to all. Stella embraced every moment with vigor, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish her memory: Anita and Malik Ba, Angela “Peaches” Harvey and Thad Passmore, Robert and Laurie Coles, Marsha Coles-Felix and Ray Felix, Corey Coles and Lavita Mahan, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will forever hold her dear in their hearts. A celebration of Stella’s remarkable life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Green Lawn Cemetery, located at 1000 Greenlawn Ave, Columbus, OH 43223. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember the joy she brought into our lives. In the words of George Washington Carver, “Our creator is the same and never changes despite the names given Him by people here and all parts of the world. Even if we gave Him no name at all, He would still be there, within us, waiting to give us good on this earth.” This sentiment echoes Stella’s own spirit—a reminder that love and goodness are eternal, much like the impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her. Stella Virginia “Sugar” Caldwell will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever endure. May she rest in peace.

Reflections

I’m Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now; He set me free.
