In Loving Memory

Soundra Lavon Ward
November 8, 1975 — October 1, 2026
Soundra Lavon Johnson Ward was born November 8, 1975 in Nottoway County, VA to the loving family of Mr. Curtis Johnson and the late Rev. Dr. Yvonne Reynolds-Johnson of Blackstone, VA. She was converted, baptized, and joined Poplar Lawn Baptist Church where she participated in various ministries. She graduated from Nottoway County High School. Soundra received a B.S degree from Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA in Business Education and a Master's degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix. Soundra's twenty-five year educational career encompassed teaching positions in Culpepper, Fairfax, Richmond City, and Chesterfield County Public Schools. She excelled in the teaching of business classes, computer science, and virtual classroom instruction.
Soundra married Nathan Ward and was blessed with a son, Nathan Curtis Ward. She was a loving mother, daughter, cousin and friend. She was an avid reader, writer, with aspirations to become an author. She was a model in the July, 2021 issue of Off Town Fashion and Lifestyle Magazine. In our hours of sadness, we are deeply touched by such a great loss. We are so blessed and thankful for the years of her life shared with us.
Soundra is survived by her father, Mr. Curtis C. Johnson and her son, Nathan Curtis Ward; three aunts, Dr. Brenda Reynolds- Mayo of Richmond, VA, Dr. Carol Reynolds-Freeman of Ellicott City, MD, and Mrs. Connie Reynolds- Hurt of Burkeville, VA; four uncles, Mr. Rodney Reynolds, Mr. Robert Mayo, Sr., Mr. Larry Freeman, and Mr. Sylvester Hurt. She was adored by her cousins Anita Drungoole of Dinwiddie, VA, Earl Johnson of Hampton, VA, Waverly Johnson of Tacoma, WA, Lula Johnson of New York, LaRae Flores and Marilyn Johnson of South Carolina, and Sylvia Carter of GA as well as a host of loving cousins and friends.
As Nathan shared, "my mom was kind and a free spirit. She lifted everyone's spirits whenever she walked in a room and she was the only person I knew inside and out. My mother continues to give me strength. She was my best friend and mother in every way possible and she will always be in our hearts. I love you Mom."
