Sonya Mitchell
June 23, 1963 — April 26, 2026
It is with profound sadness and gentle solace that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Sonya Mitchell, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Sonya departed this world on April 26, 2026, at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness that will forever remain in our hearts.
Born on June 23, 1963, in Carrollton, Georgia, Sonya was a beacon of light, gracing the lives of all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of J.W. and Mary Farmer, and sister to Sam Cooley, Melissa Perry, Tequila Farmer, and the late Brenda Boyd. Sonya's nurturing spirit and unwavering love were evident in every relationship she held dear.
On June 21, 1985, Sonya married her soulmate, Ricky Mitchell, in a beautiful ceremony in Carrollton, Georgia. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their four wonderful children: Shonrika, Mariah, Ricky, and Joshua, along with their bonus son, Marcus, and his wife Lateshia Holland. Sonya's love extended to her six grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply; Autymn, Hezekiah, Junior, Madison, Kia, and Rhilynn.
A graduate of Bowdon High School, Sonya dedicated over 30 years to her career as a sales associate at various retail establishments. Her colleagues and customers alike were touched by her beautiful smile and humble spirit. Beyond her professional life, Sonya was an active and devoted member of the In the Master's Hand Church Ministry, where she served as the First Lady, embodying grace and kindness in every aspect of her ministry.
Sonya found joy in the simple pleasures of life—shopping, vacationing with her family, and loving her husband with all her heart. Her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued was a testament to her extraordinary character. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith touched countless lives, leaving an indelible impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her immediate family, Sonya is survived by her lifelong friend, Laura Kight, who stood by her through all of life's seasons. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, yet her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A private funeral service will be held on May 5, 2026, as we gather to celebrate her life and bid farewell. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to The Willie Watkins Funeral Home for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time.
Though Sonya has left this earthly realm, her legacy of love and kindness will forever endure in the hearts of those she leaves behind. As we remember her, let us strive to reflect the warmth and generosity she so effortlessly shared with the world.
Rest in peace, dear Sonya. You were deeply loved, and you will be dearly missed.
