In Loving Memory of Shirley Euell Mahone It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley Euell Mahone, who departed this life on August 22, 2026, just days shy of her 89th birthday. Born on August 25, 1937, in the vibrant town of Alexandria, Louisiana, Shirley was a beacon of love, wisdom, and strength to all who knew her. Shirley was the cherished daughter of James and Lucinda Euell, who instilled in her the values of kindness and generosity that she carried throughout her life. She was predeceased by her father, mother, her brother James Euell Jr., her sister Marilyn Edwards, and her beloved children Sylvia and Eric and her grandsons Damon and JaShaun. Her enduring legacy continues through her surviving children: Gregory Euell (Paula), Cheryl Robinson(Late Larry), Demetrius Thomas (Dale), Euell Thomas, and Carlotta Bacon (Michael). Shirley was the proud grandmother to ten grandchildren—Henry and Domonique Thomas, Euell, Lavell, and Dorian Sylvester, Tyrell Carter, Makaila Euell, Aeryk, Aaliyah, and Aaron Bacon—and a doting great-grandmother to thirteen beautiful great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Shirley graduated from Peabody High School in Alexandria, Louisiana, in 1955. She dedicated her career to Eckstein Marine Service and retired from it, and is remembered by colleagues as a diligent and kind-hearted worker who fostered warmth and camaraderie. Beyond her professional life, Shirley was a woman of diverse interests and talents. Her passion for cooking was renowned among her family and friends; she had an unmatched ability to bring people together through her delicious meals. An avid gardener, Shirley had an extraordinary green thumb and could nurture life from the soil with seeming ease. She was also a fervent supporter of the New Orleans Saints, rarely missing a game and cheering with unwavering enthusiasm. Family was Shirley's cornerstone. She took immense joy in creating a welcoming space for her loved ones to gather and celebrate life’s moments. Her veranda was not just a physical space but a symbol of her open heart and home. Known for her kind heart and generosity, Shirley had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Her wisdom and strength were pillars for her family and community, always offering the best advice and inspiring those around her with her unwavering faith and resilience. She was a guiding light, a constant source of encouragement, and a believer in the potential of all those she loved. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, and she will be deeply missed by her close friends Roslyn, Lauren, Kristen, and Taylor Eckstein, who cherished her companionship and warmth.
