Shirley Slater McCarter
October 21, 1936 — July 5, 2026
In loving memory, we honor the life of Shirley Slater McCarter, who peacefully departed this world on July 5, 2026, surrounded by family and embraced by the love of her Savior, Jesus Christ, after a brief illness. Born on October 21, 1936, in Charleston, West Virginia, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Noble and Murrell Jenkins, both of whom predeceased her.
Shirley was a woman of devotion and grace, known for her vibrant spirit and impeccable taste. Her life was marked by a deep love for her family and a passion for creativity. She was married to her first love, Billy Slater, on July 17, 1953, and they shared a beautiful life together until his passing on July 25, 1991. Finding love a second time, she married Don McCarter on May 1, 1993, and cherished their time together until he too was called home.
A dedicated and industrious woman, Shirley began her career at home before becoming a Mobil Oil Dealer in 1979. Her work ethic and business acumen were well-respected by all who knew her. Shirley was also a woman of faith, actively participating in the Church at Asbury Arms, Cocoa Methodist, and Cross Bridge Church of the Nazarene.
Her artistic soul found joy in ceramics, painting, and word games. Shirley's eye for fashion was legendary, and her extensive clothing collection was a testament to her unique style and flair.
Shirley's legacy lives on through her beloved daughters, Toni Lynch and her husband Robert, and Kathy Clark; her treasured grandchildren, April Dunn and Robert Lynch, Jr.; and her six great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride.
A service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on August 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Cross Bridge Church, located at 651 Barnes Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Cape Canaveral Hospital Hospice, who provided exceptional care and comfort to Shirley and her loved ones during her final days.
Shirley's life was a blessing to all who knew her. Her kindness, grace, and steadfast faith will be remembered and cherished forever. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
