In Loving Memory

Shirley Godsey
February 5, 1966 — October 28, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Wellmann, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Shirley departed this world peacefully at Belton Regional Medical Center on October 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Her journey, marked by courage and resilience, ended after a brave battle with lung cancer.
Born on February 5, 1966, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Rebecca E. Godsey and the late James S. Godsey Jr. Her early years were spent in Cedar Falls, where she graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1984. It was in this close-knit community that she cultivated the warmth and kindness that would define her life.
On October 4, 1986, Shirley married Kevin Wellmann, and together they built a life centered around love and family. Shirley and Kevin were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Amber and Ashlie, and shared countless joyful moments on the softball field, proudly supporting their girls.
Shirley had a unique ability to care for those around her, a quality that shone brightly in her career as a caregiver for the elderly. Her compassionate nature and infectious personality drew people to her, especially children, who flocked to her open arms and welcoming heart.
A woman of many passions, Shirley found immense joy in watching her grandchildren, Jacob Bray, Jade Wellmann, Jamie Bray, Rylie Carmack, Kierra Carmack, and Ryder Thibault, excel in bowling leagues, baseball, and boxing. She cherished every moment spent with family and friends, often gathering to enjoy music and indulge in her favorite hobby, diamond art.
Shirley is survived by her Mother Rebecca E Godsey, her daughters, Amber and Ashlie Wellmann, her grandchildren, and her siblings, Julie Godsey and Charity Rosteck. Her father, James S. Godsey Jr., and Kevin wellmann predeceased her but surely welcomed her with open arms.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the cancer team who provided unwavering support and care, and to the Sarah Cannon Foundation for their generosity. They also wish to thank the compassionate staff at Belton Hospital, who ensured Shirley's final moments were peaceful and dignified.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Sarah Cannon Foundation in Shirley's memory, to honor the care and support they provided during her journey.
Shirley Godsey touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. Her wings were ready, but our hearts were not. Fly high, our beautiful angel. We all love you dearly.
