Shirley Nolan
March 30, 1948 — April 1, 2026
In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Shirley Nolan, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved friend, who passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. Born on March 30, 1948, in the charming city of Savannah, Georgia, Shirley's life was one of love, dedication, and unwavering faith.
Shirley was the cherished daughter of Charles and Cletha Tillman, whose nurturing spirit and values she carried forth throughout her life. She was also the younger sister to Barbara, with whom she shared countless childhood adventures and heartwarming memories. Shirley's kind-hearted nature and generosity were traits she inherited from her beloved parents and sister, both of whom predeceased her.
On November 25, 1968, Shirley married the love of her life, Thomas Nolan, embarking on a journey of partnership and devotion that spanned decades. Together, they built a family rooted in love and resilience. Shirley was a nurturing and devoted mother to her two children, Larry (married to April) and Amy (married to Andy), and her love extended boundlessly to her four grandchildren: Garrett (married to Anna), Carter, Charlotte, and Sara. They were the light of her life, and she found immense joy in their laughter and achievements.
A proud graduate, Shirley's thirst for knowledge and her commitment to education were evident in her career and her community involvement. Her life was enriched by her deep faith, and she was a long-time member of Grace Church of Savannah, formerly known as Grace UMC. Her faith community was a source of strength and solace, and she cherished the fellowship and friendships she found there.
Shirley was not only a loving wife, mother, and grandmother but also a treasured sister-in-law to Bob and a beloved aunt to her niece Elizabeth (married to Shanna). Her family was her pride and joy, her steadfast support, and her reason for being.
Her legacy of compassion, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Though she has left this earthly realm, the impact of her spirit will continue to resonate through the lives she touched.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in a celebration of Shirley's life, where stories will be shared, and her memory will be honored. Details for the service will be announced in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Shirley's memory to organizations supporting dementia research and care, causes that were close to her heart.
As we bid farewell to Shirley Nolan, we hold her memory close, finding comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved Tom, her parents, and her sister Barbara. Her journey here on earth may be complete, but her spirit lives on, a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her.
