Shirley Noble

Shirley Noble, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Born on January 30, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Clara Walker and Nelson Homer Noordyke, Shirley lived a life filled with joy, compassion, and a zest for life that inspired all who knew her. Shirley was a bright light from her earliest days, growing up in a loving family alongside her brother, Nelson Noordyke. She pursued her passion for education at Western Michigan University, later dedicating many years to nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher with the Grand Rapids Public Schools. Her commitment to her students and her community left a lasting impact that will be remembered by many. Shirley's life was enriched with fond memories and cherished moments. She was an emeritus member of the Egypt Valley Country Club, where she enjoyed many rounds of golf and fostered lifelong friendships. A lover of the simple pleasures, Shirley found great joy in sitting by the shores of Lake Michigan with her toes in the sand, a glass of white wine in hand, watching the waves roll in and the seagulls "argue" over models of food. Her love for games was legendary, whether she was playing a competitive round of Setback or teaching her grandchildren how to swim in her above-ground pool. Shirley's warmth, positivity, and can-do spirit were infectious and touched everyone she met. There was no quit in Shirley. Family was at the heart of Shirley's life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alton Stewart Noble, her brother, Nelson Noordyke, and her parents, Clara and Nelson Homer. Her legacy continues through her children, Susan (Jim) Casey, Cindy (Jim) Ross, and Mike (Trudy) Noble, and her adoring grandchildren, Claire (Jodi) Simmons, Adam Ross, Justin (Mary) Ross, Amber, Allie, and Jack Noble. Shirley also leaves behind great-grandchildren Elliot Casey, Holly Ross, and Jayla, Gianna, and Jodi Simmons, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. A private funeral ceremony will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the West Michigan Humane Society, reflecting Shirley's deep love for animals and her dedication to making the world a better place. Shirley Noble's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering positivity will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. She leaves behind a tapestry of beautiful memories, woven with love and joy, that will be cherished for generations to come.
