In Loving Memory

Shirley McDonald
November 24, 1936 — June 7, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Shirley McDonald, who left this world peacefully on June 7, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on November 24, 1936, in Clarkton, North Carolina, Shirley was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her 89 years of life.
Shirley was the cherished daughter of Ira and Estelle McKeithan, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience that she carried throughout her life. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Brown McDonald.
She is survived by her devoted children, who were the pride and joy of her life: her daughter, Dawn Enterline, and husband, Lee; her sons, Kenneth McDonald and his wife, Alice; and Dean McDonald and his wife, Jayna. Shirley was also the cherished sister of Sue Renshaw and Pauline Evans, and predeceased by her brother Thomas McKeithan and a proud grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren Jarrod and Adam McDonald and Jess Huynh and Brett McDonald and great granddaughter Hien Huynh each of whom she adored deeply.
Shirley's life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and community. She was a longstanding member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she took great pride in her heritage and the values of freedom and service. Her compassionate spirit led her to volunteer tirelessly with hospice, offering comfort and companionship to those in their final days. As a member of the Red Hat Society and various church organizations, Shirley was always eager to share her smile and friendship, enriching the lives of those around her.
Shirley had a deep love for animals and flowers, finding joy and beauty in nature's creations. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, vibrant and full of life, much like Shirley herself. Her ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life was a gift she shared freely with everyone she met.
A service to celebrate Shirley's beautiful life will be held on June 13, 2026, at Clarkton Presbyterian Church, a place of worship and community that held a special place in her heart. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Pastor Patrick Whaley for his kindness and support over the last few years, providing comfort and guidance to Shirley and her loved ones.
Shirley's legacy is one of love, kindness, and a life well-lived in service to others. She leaves behind a community that will dearly miss her presence but will strive to carry forward her legacy of compassion and joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Shirley's memory to a local hospice or animal rescue organization, causes close to her heart.
As we bid farewell to Shirley, we remember her not with tears, but with gratitude for having been blessed by her presence in our lives. Her memory will forever be a guiding light, a reminder of the power of love and the strength of family.
