October 2, 1943 — March 30, 2026

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Maksymiak, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, on March 30, 2026. Shirley left this world surrounded by the comfort of her home, departing at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and warmth that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Born on October 28, 1943, in Woodstock, Illinois, Shirley was the treasured daughter of Paul and Ethel Wilcox. From an early age, she exhibited an outgoing and curious nature, qualities that she carried throughout her life. Her spirit of adventure led her on many journeys, both near and far, and her boundless curiosity ensured that she embraced each new experience with enthusiasm and joy. In 1981, Shirley married the love of her life, Wayne Maksymiak. Together, they shared 39 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. The couple ran a friendly fishing resort in Minnesota, where Shirley's love for fishing blossomed. After retiring, they embarked on a grand adventure across the country in their motorhome, creating lasting memories and friendships along the way. In 2020, Shirley faced the heart-wrenching loss of Wayne, but her resilient spirit carried her forward as she moved to Missouri to be closer to her son. Shirley was the proud and devoted mother to Randy and Kim Hutter, Tim and Audrey Hutter, Brad and Angela Hutter, Mike and Karen Maksymiak, and Chris Maksymiak. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love extended to her 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Shirley cherished every moment spent watching her grandchildren play, and her home was always a haven of warmth and laughter. A woman of many passions, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid coffee enthusiast, a lover of good food, and a frequent visitor of antique shops, always on the lookout for a hidden treasure. Her love for puzzles and bingo at the senior center kept her mind sharp and her heart youthful. Above all, Shirley lived for hugs, and her embrace was a source of comfort and love for her family and friends. Shirley is predeceased by her beloved husband, Wayne, whose memory she cherished. She is survived by her loving family, who will forever hold her in their hearts. As we remember Shirley, let us celebrate the life of a woman who embraced each day with a smile and a heart full of love. Her kindness, curiosity, and zest for life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit will live on in the cherished memories of her family and friends. A private family service will be held to honor Shirley's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local senior center, in celebration of Shirley's love for community and connection. As we say goodbye to our beloved Shirley, let us hold her memory close, remembering the joy and love she brought into our lives. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
