It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Shirley Sease Gass on July 18, 2026. Shirley graced this world on October 29, 1967, in the warm embrace of Bamberg, South Carolina, born to John and Emma Sease. Her journey through life was marked by unwavering faith, compassion, and an indomitable spirit that touched everyone she encountered.
Shirley is predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Emma Sease, her brother James E. Sease, and her daughter Christina M. Gass, who preceded her to Heaven.
Shirley's legacy is carried forward by her loving husband, John A. Gass, and her cherished daughters: Kelsey S. Gass and Kelly G. Chambers( Kevin). She is also survived by her grandcat, Keithan. Her siblings, brothers Robert and William Sease (Shirley)of Bamberg, SC, Leroy A. Sease of Dillon, SC, and sisters Emma Sease of Bamberg, SC, Suzanne S. Holman (Toni) of Denmark, SC, and Virginia G. Smith of Columbia, SC, will continue to honor her memory, alongside her many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Shirley was a proud graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School, Class of 1985. Her pursuit of knowledge took her to the University of Phoenix, Voorhees University, Denmark and O-C Technical Colleges, where she earned her degrees, laying a strong foundation for a remarkable career.
Her professional life was characterized by dedication and service. Shirley worked tirelessly with the BHDD-Office of Mental Health in Lexington, SC, where her empathy and kindness brought comfort to many. Her career also included impactful roles with Duval County Public Schools, Alachua County Sheriff's Office, Florida Department of Corrections, Claflin University, University of South Carolina - Columbia, and Westinghouse Savannah River Company (SRS).
Shirley was a woman of strong beliefs and was actively involved in her community through various organizations. She was a beloved member of Alive Church in Gainesville, Florida, and supported causes dear to her heart, including the NEA of SC and Florida, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society, and South Carolina Oncology Associates.
Shirley's life was rich with diverse interests. She was a tennis enthusiast, a devoted fan of SC State University and Florida Gators football, and found joy in computers, reading at the beach, and indulging in old movies, jazz music, and opera. Her heart was always at peace, as she believed deeply in the presence of God. Her mantra, "it's not about us, but it's about Jesus," guided her actions and interactions.
Even in the face of adversity, battling breast cancer, Shirley's faith never wavered. She saw her challenges as an opportunity to inspire others, constantly holding on and spreading hope.
Her family extends their gratitude for all the prayers, blessings, and support received during this time. In Shirley's memory, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Fund.
Shirley's warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
