Shirley Louise Baker

March 23, 1946 — July 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Louise Baker, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Shirley departed this world peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loved ones in Jack, Alabama. Born on March 23, 1946, in Illinois, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Kathleen Benton. She grew up with her siblings, Katie Corray and Bobby Jayne, who remained her closest allies throughout her life. Shirley's compassionate nature and radiant smile touched the lives of everyone she met. Shirley shared 42 memorable years with her devoted husband, William 'Bill' Baker. Together, they built a life filled with love, joy, and countless adventures. Their bond was a testament to enduring love, and they were the best of friends. Shirley’s commitment to her family was unwavering, and she took immense pride in the lives of her children: Patrick Benton, Sr. (Kim) of Mesa, Arizona, William Baker of Glendale, Arizona, and Matthew Baker of Arizona. A doting grandmother, Shirley cherished her time with her six grandchildren, including Patrick 'PJ' Benton (Holli) of Elba, Alabama, and her great-grandson, William Benton, who brought her boundless joy and laughter. Her home was often filled with laughter and warmth, serving as a gathering place for family and friends who were like family. For over two decades, Shirley dedicated herself to the TOPS program, where she made significant contributions through her volunteer work. Her passion for helping others was matched only by her love for animals, and she spent countless hours caring for and nurturing them. Shirley also found solace and creativity in cross-stitching, crafting beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her family for generations. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Kathleen Benton, leaving behind a legacy of love and generosity that will continue to inspire all who knew her. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on July 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Skeen Funeral Home, located in Troy, Alabama. Friends and family will gather to honor her memory and share in the stories of her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Shirley's name to the Troy Animal Rescue Project, reflecting her deep love for animals. Shirley Louise Baker lived a life full of grace and kindness. Her spirit, compassion, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be dearly missed but never forgotten. She remains forever in our hearts, a guiding light for those she leaves behind.
