In Loving Memory

Shirley Jean Smith (Hansen)
May 12, 1960 — October 26, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Shirley Jean Smith (Hansen), our precious litte sister who left us on October 26, 2025, at the age of 65. Shirley was born on May 12, 1960, in the town of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the youngest of six children to parents, Clifton Abbott Smith and Alma Eretta Francis (Raglin) Smith, who predeceased her. Shirley was also predeceased by her beloved older brother, Jack Allen Smith, whose memory she cherished deeply.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and creativity that will continue to inspire those she touched. She is survived by her devoted siblings: Darlene Wellman, Darrell Henry Smith and his wife Sheryl, Denise Harriet Smith, and Ruth Ann McLaughlin. She was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children, who will forever remember her as a favorite among them—a testament to her youthful spirit and boundless affection.
Shirley's journey was marked by her dedication to her family and her work. After completing her high school education, she pursued her passion for beauty at a beauty college, a testament to her creative spirit. She built a fulfilling career working with Walmart, Verizon, and a local market in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Her professional journey was characterized by a strong work ethic and a commitment to those she served and worked alongside.
A baptized Jehovah's Witness, Shirley found solace and purpose in her faith, drawing strength from her community. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and provided comfort and peace in her final years.
Shirley was a woman of many talents and interests. She had a remarkable gift for crafting and quilting, creating beautiful works of art that she lovingly shared with her family and friends. Her passion for antique shoppe shopping was a delightful adventure she often embarked upon, always finding treasures that brought joy to her and those around her. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, always ready to partake in the adventures devised by her nieces and nephews. Her quirky sense of humor and infectious laughter were as much a part of her as her tender heart, which often moved her to tears of empathy and love.
Though she faced significant health challenges in her later years, Shirley's spirit remained unbroken. Her journey was supported by the compassionate care of nurses and doctors who became an extended family to her. Their love and dedication provided comfort during her 10-year stay in the home where she was lovingly cared for. She was a faithful and devoted wife for many years until a series of strokes left her totally disabled.
A private funeral service will be held on May 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The family has chosen to celebrate Shirley's life through a virtual ceremony via Zoom, allowing those who knew and loved her to join in honoring her memory from afar.
