It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on October 18, 2026. Born on March 29, 1959, in Houston, Texas, Shirley lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unyielding grace.
Shirley was the cherished daughter of Joann Champs and was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ed Fletcher. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Leroy, Ivory, Florence, and Ricky. She is survived by her loving children, David Jr., Andre, Navaka, Isaiah, Lisa, Krystal, and Althea, who will carry her legacy forward. Her siblings, Aurdry, Fred, and Johnny Boy, will remember her fondly, as will her 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews who brought immense joy to her life.
Shirley was baptized at a young age at Worthington Missionary Baptist Church, where she grew up in Houston. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, grounding her with a spirit of compassion and strength. Known for her wit and warm smile, Shirley had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her generosity and kindness touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
An avid fisherwoman, Shirley found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was thrifting, enjoying her McDonald's coffee, or watching "The Wheel of Fortune" with her Benson & Hedges soft pack. Her laughter was a shelter, and her wisdom a guide, offering comfort and counsel to those around her.
A devoted caregiver throughout her life, Shirley dedicated herself to her family, becoming a housewife who nurtured and cared for everyone around her. Her calloused hands and unyielding heart were a testament to the love and pride she instilled in her home. She carried a kingdom in the quiet of her stride, a queen in every season, whose reign on earth has now transitioned to a heavenly realm.

CrownedInGrace
She carried a kingdom in the quiet of her stride,
A steady, gentle power where our histories abide.
Not with velvet robes or a glittering stone,
Did she build the foundation of a royal home.
With calloused hands and a fierce, unyielding heart,
She held the pieces when the world would pull apart.
Her laughter was a shelter, her wisdom was a guide,
A queen in every season, walking right beside.
The crown she wore was woven out of love and pride,
Of lessons softly spoken and tears she brushed aside.
Though the throne is vacant and the hall is still,
Her spirit is a legacy that time can never chill.
Rest now, noble queen, in peace and sweet repose,
More radiant and timeless than any garden rose.
Your reign on earth is ended, your heavenly crown begun,
Our everlasting royal-beloved, honored, one.
