Shirley Betters

July 14, 1944 — April 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Rae Betters on April 20, 2026, at her cherished home near the Pacific Ocean. Born on July 14, 1944, in Oklahoma, Shirley was a beacon of joy and wisdom to all who knew her. Shirley was predeceased by her loving parents, Richard and Pauline Kennecht, as well as her dear brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Deanie Geller. Yet, her legacy continues through the lives of those she left behind: her devoted life partner, Norm Smith; her son, Paul Betters, and his wife, Amber; her daughter, Nichelle Hudson, and her husband, Michael. Shirley's spirit also thrives in her grandchildren, Christmas Fisher, Cody Betters and his wife Lindsey, Christina Phillips and her husband John, Courtney Hudson and her wife Jacie, Connor Hudson and his wife Rachel, and in her great-grandchildren, Theo, Oscar, Layne, Grayson, Jace, Lucas, Layla, and Maya. In addition to her immediate family, many more loved ones and close friends hold her memory dear. A lifelong learner, Shirley's passion for knowledge was as vast as the ocean she loved to walk beside. Her adventures took her around the world, where she embraced diverse cultures and made countless friends. An avid reader, Shirley also found joy in penning hundreds of letters each year, connecting her with pen pals from various corners of the globe. Her words, whether spoken or written, had the power to uplift and inspire. Shirley possessed an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel cherished. Her warm smile could light up any room, and her quick wit and eloquence were matched only by her talent for storytelling. She offered a listening ear and wise counsel to all fortunate enough to know her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. In accordance with Shirley's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate her remarkable life. While we mourn the loss of such a vibrant soul, we also celebrate the love and joy she brought to our lives. As we remember Shirley, may we find solace in the sweet memories we shared and the enduring impact of her extraordinary spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Shirley's memory to organizations that promote literacy and lifelong learning, continuing her legacy of nurturing curiosity and connection. Shirley will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all those whose lives she touched. May her gentle soul rest in peace, embraced by the waves of her beloved Pacific Ocean.
