Shirley Ann Wooten, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully departed this world on March 7, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 17, 1946, in Wilson, North Carolina, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Hunter and Christine Capps. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and a spirited zest for life, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Shirley's formative years were spent in the warm embrace of her family and community. She graduated from Elm City High School, where she nurtured a love for learning and built friendships that would last a lifetime. Her career at Sampson Manufacturing spanned 24 years, where she was known for her dedication, work ethic, and the joy she brought to her colleagues. In 1975, Shirley married the love of her life, Ronald Wooten. Together, they shared 34 beautiful years filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. Their love was a beacon of strength and resilience, and though Ronald predeceased her, Shirley carried his memory with her always. Shirley was a vibrant spirit, full of energy and life. Her passion for NASCAR racing was rivaled only by her love for collecting Elvis memorabilia and various dolls. She had an impeccable sense of style and was a true fashion enthusiast. Shirley's heart was most at home in Florida, where she often traveled to bask in the sunshine and create cherished memories. A devoted member of Elm City Baptist, Shirley's faith was an integral part of her life. Her presence in the church community was a source of inspiration, and she dedicated herself to serving others with grace and humility. Shirley's legacy of love and laughter is carried on by her surviving family: her brother, Larry Capps and his wife Judy; nieces Wendy Cochrun and her husband Rob, Michelle Powell-Beamon and her husband Nick, and Cindy Laing; six great-grand-nieces and nephews; and cousins Jackie Harrell and Rhonda Cobb. She was predeceased by her parents Hunter and Christine Capps, husband, Ronald Wooten, and her brother, Wilbur Powell. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on March 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Edgewood Church, located at 680 Edgewood Church Rd, Macclesfield, NC 27852. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Edgewood Church in Shirley’s memory, ensuring that her legacy of faith and kindness continues to touch lives for years to come. Shirley Ann Wooten will be remembered for her boundless energy, her love of family and friends, and her unwavering faith. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Shirley, knowing that you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
