September 12, 1936 — March 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Ann Nelson, née Stuart, on March 19, 2026. Shirley departed this world in the comfort of her home, enveloped by love, having faced numerous health challenges with grace and resilience. Born on September 12, 1936, in the warm, welcoming town of Macomb, Oklahoma, Shirley was a beacon of kindness whose legacy will forever illuminate the lives she touched. The cherished daughter of John and Audrey Stuart, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her brothers Don and Jim Stuart, and her sons Richard, Randy, Craig, and Keith Willis. She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Galen Nelson, with whom she shared a life of adventure and love since their marriage on June 9, 1990, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Shirley is also lovingly remembered by her son, Bill Willis, her seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life and the testament to her enduring spirit and love. Shirley was a proud graduate of Macomb High School, class of 1954. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing, a calling she answered with unfailing dedication. Shirley studied practical nursing at Umpqua Community College in 1973 and later earned an Associate’s degree from Scottsdale Community College in 1980. After raising her children, Shirley embraced her role as a registered nurse, serving for 20 years with compassion and a beautiful smile that was a balm to all who knew her. Those who knew Shirley knew of her love for quilting, sewing, and refinishing furniture. Her hands were never still, whether nurturing her garden or skiing down a powdery slope. A true rock hound, Shirley delighted in uncovering the earth’s hidden treasures, much like she unearthed joy and beauty in every moment she lived. Her adventurous spirit guided her travels and friendships, leaving memories etched in the hearts of friends and family alike. Shirley’s generosity knew no bounds, and she was ever ready to lend a helping hand, embodying a spirit of selflessness that will be deeply missed. Her life was a testament to kindness, and her legacy is one of love, laughter, and the quiet strength that uplifted everyone around her. A service to honor Shirley’s life will be held on March 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Home, located in Grants Pass, Oregon. In this gathering, we will celebrate Shirley’s life, her love, and her legacy, holding her memory close as we say our farewells. In a special message to her family, Shirley shared a poignant reflection on her journey, expressing gratitude for the love she both gave and received, and the peace she found in letting go. As we bid farewell to our beloved Shirley, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we shared and the love she imparted. Her spirit will continue to guide us, a gentle reminder of the warmth and light she brought into our lives.
