It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley Ann Brooks Swanson, who left this world peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 72. Shirley was born to Ruby Lee Brooks and Bennie Z. Hill on October 27, 1953, in Anniston, Alabama, where she spent a majority of her life, sharing her warmth and wisdom with all who had the good fortune to know her.
Shirley was a beacon of love and kindness, known for her radiant smile that could light up any room. Her compassionate heart was always open, offering encouragement and support to family and friends alike. A devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend, her legacy of generosity and positivity will live on in the many lives she touched.
Shirley was predeceased by her cherished son, Trevor Martin Brooks, her loving parents, and her dear siblings, Bennie Brooks Jr. and Cathy Grant Blevins. Despite the heartaches of these losses, Shirley continued to be a pillar of strength and compassion for those around her.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Faith Swanson Jackson, and her siblings, Jeannette Bolding, Jerry Hill, and Bernard Hill, as well as her brother-in-law, Richard Bolding. Shirley leaves behind her beloved nieces, Latanya, Daphanie Brooks, Michelle Helms Brooks, and Lekita Brooks, along with her great-nephew, Corvalous Bolding. Her family was extended with love to her adopted daughters, Leawona, Latoya, Angela, and Albrittney, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Shirley's nurturing spirit was not limited to her family. She leaves behind a community of dear friends who became family, including Mary Davis, Cynthia Alexander, the Stoudenmire family, Myrtice Fields and family, the Brooks and McCormick family, and her Murray Temple church family. Her presence was a blessing to all, including her classmates from Cobb Class of '72 and her coworkers at various employers.
A loving grandmother, Shirley adored her two grandchildren, Trevor and Robert, who brought immense joy to her life. Her family and friends will forever remember her encouraging words and unwavering support. Shirley's vibrant spirit and generous heart have left an indelible mark on the world, and she will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on July 26, 2026, at 12:30 PM at the Royal Funeral Home, located at 4315 NW Oakwood Ave. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Shirley are welcome to attend.
