Shirlene Irene Starks

July 30, 1949 — May 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Shirlene Irene Starks, who departed this world peacefully in her sleep on May 25, 2026. Born on July 30, 1949, in the picturesque town of Somerset, Bermuda, Shirlene was a beacon of joy and kindness whose vibrant spirit touched everyone she met. Shirlene was the beloved daughter of Alice Butterfield and Francis Minks, both of whom she now joins, along with her cherished husband, Dexter Starks. She is also predeceased by her sisters Jacquelyn Augustus and Jeannette Augustus, and her brothers Rudolph Wade, Leon Butterfield, and Jonathan Augustus. Despite these losses, Shirlene’s legacy continues to flourish through her loving family, including her devoted son Kenneth Butterfield and daughter Karleese Butterfield/Nichols. Her sisters Marlene Wilson, Jocelyn Augustus, and Juliette Augustus also survive her, along with her four adoring grandchildren, Kennelle (Keke) Butterfield, Kenneisha Butterfield, Kenneth Butterfield Jr., and Kendall Butterfield, and her treasured great-grandchildren, Kajj and Knight Butterfield. Shirlene’s professional journey was marked by dedication and creativity. For twenty years, she managed a bustling restaurant at 1010 Mass Ave, where she forged enduring relationships with colleagues and patrons alike. Following this, she spent seventeen years managing a supermarket deli, further honing her skills and nurturing her love for culinary arts. Her passion for innovation led her to start a side business crafting unique party novelties, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit. In her leisure time, Shirlene found joy in a variety of pursuits. An accomplished bowler, she was the champion of her league in Bermuda, a title she wore with pride. Her talents extended beyond the bowling alley; she was also a gifted seamstress, transforming fabric into beautiful creations with ease. Known for her culinary prowess, she delighted family and friends with her legendary baked mac n' cheese and BBQ ribs, dishes that became staples at gatherings. Shirlene was known far and wide for her distinctive loud laugh and radiant smile, both of which could brighten any room. Her ability to uplift those around her was unmatched, and she knew just how to turn a moment of sorrow into one of joy with her infectious energy. As we bid farewell to Shirlene, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, laughter, and accomplishment. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. A memorial service will be held to honor her life and the indelible mark she left on the world. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Shirlene’s memory, continuing her legacy of generosity and kindness. May Shirlene Irene Starks rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever guiding us with warmth and love.

A Life Well Lived

A life well lived is a precious gift of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It's filled with moments, sweet and sad, with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and good times shared and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy of joy and pride and pleasure, a living, lasting memory our grateful hearts will treasure.

Special Thanks

The family of Shirlene Irene Starks extends heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, support, and kindness during this time. The family would also like to give thanks to Tides Hospice and The Pope Center for making her transition comfortable . Psalms 20:1-9 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings. May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests. Now this I know: The LORD gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. LORD, give victory to the king!
