It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirlene Irene Starks, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully left this world in her sleep on May 25, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on July 30, 1949, in the serene paradise of Paget, Bermuda, Shirlene was the beloved daughter of Alice Butterfield and Francis Minks. She was a woman who brought joy and warmth to all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Shirlene was predeceased by her loving husband, Dexter Starks, and her dear parents. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Jacquelyn Augustus and Jeannette Augustus, and her brothers, Rudolph Wade, Leon Butterfield, and Jonathan Augustus. Despite these profound losses, Shirlene remained a beacon of strength and resilience for her family and community. Surviving her are her devoted children, son Kenneth Butterfield and daughter Karleese Butterfield Nichols, who will continue to honor her legacy with love and dedication. Shirlene's spirit lives on in her cherished grandchildren, Kennelle (Keke) Butterfield, Kenneisha Butterfield, Kenneth Butterfield Jr., and Kendall Butterfield, and through the laughter of her great-grandchildren, Kajj Butterfield and Knight Butterfield. Shirlene's career was as diverse as it was impressive. For 20 years, she managed a bustling restaurant at 1010 Mass Ave, where her leadership and passion for customer service shone brightly. Her journey then led her to manage a supermarket deli for 17 years, where her culinary skills and warm personality were celebrated by colleagues and patrons alike. Not one to rest on her laurels, Shirlene's entrepreneurial spirit led her to open a side business creating unique party novelties, showcasing her creativity and vision. In Bermuda, Shirlene was renowned not only as a champion in her bowling league but also for her talent as a seamstress and her ability to create culinary delights. Her baked Mac n cheese and BBQ ribs were legendary, a testament to her love for bringing people together over good food and laughter. Her distinctive loud laugh and beautiful smile were her trademarks, lighting up every room she entered and spreading joy to all around her. Shirlene was a woman of many talents and passions, but above all, she was a nurturer. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support were felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and resilience in the face of adversity. A celebration of Shirlene's life will be held on June 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army, located at 23 Vernon Street, Roxbury, MA 02119. Family and friends are invited to gather in her honor and share in the memories of a life well-lived. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Pope nursing center for ensuring Shirlene's comfort during her transition. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made in Shirlene's memory to a charity of your choice that embodies her spirit of kindness and generosity. Shirlene Irene Starks will be dearly missed but forever remembered with love and admiration. May she rest in eternal peace.
