Shirlee Joan Frey
September 2, 1938 — April 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Shirlee Joan Frey, who departed this world on April 19, 2026, at the age of 87. Shirlee passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Born on September 2, 1938, in the vibrant city of Joplin, Missouri, Shirlee was the cherished daughter of Roy and Opal Moore. Her early life in Joplin was filled with the warmth of family, alongside her siblings—brothers Mitchell Moore and Louis Grammar, and her sister Betty Calvert. The Moore household was a lively one, filled with laughter, love, and the values that Shirlee carried throughout her life.
A beacon of kindness and generosity, Shirlee was known for her infectious smile and sweet-hearted nature. Her compassion extended well beyond her family, as she made it a mission to contribute to her community in meaningful ways. Shirlee was an ardent supporter of numerous charitable organizations, embodying a spirit of giving that touched the lives of many.
Though Shirlee's formal education concluded in her junior year of high school, her journey of learning and service continued throughout her life. She dedicated many years to the Merced County Sheriff's Department, where her commitment to public service was unwavering. In a bold step towards leadership, she ran for election, an endeavor that spoke volumes of her courage and passion for her community. Shirlee served as a Matron for five years, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and care. Additionally, she was a respected member of the Merced County Board of Realtors, where she brought her characteristic warmth and integrity to the profession.
Shirlee's greatest joy was her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clarence Frey, and her daughter, Debra L. Frey. The loss of her parents, Roy and Opal Moore, and her siblings did not diminish the love she carried for her surviving family—her sons, Brett M. Frey and Bartt M. Frey, who were the pride of her life. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories of their sweet-hearted grandmother.
The tapestry of Shirlee's life was rich with friendships, laughter, and a profound love for those around her. Her presence was a gentle reminder of the power of kindness, and her legacy will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In honoring Shirlee's life, we celebrate a woman who lived with grace, courage, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community. She leaves behind a world that is undeniably better because of her presence.
A service to honor Shirlee's remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing friends and family to gather and share in the memories of a truly extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charitable organization of your choice, in keeping with Shirlee's generous spirit.
