It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sheryl Lynn Symons, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, who was called home by the Lord on October 7, 2026. Sheryl's life, filled with love and laughter, began on a winter's day, January 26, 1947, in Akron, Ohio. Sheryl's father, David Lee Keener, step father Herrick Brown, brother, Major Randy Brown (USAF Ret), and granddaughter, Kayla Smith, preceded her in death. She leaves behind a family who adored her: her dedicated husband, John Symons Sr, with whom she celebrated 45 years of marriage, her mother Lois Brown, children, Sonia Walls, Jeff Baughman, John Symons II and wife Mary Symons, her grandchildren, Chris Walls, Josh Baughman, Mike Baughman, Gabe Symons, John Symons III, and Laura Symons; and her great-grandchildren, Peyton Baughman, Rylie Baughman, and Lilly Smith. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Sandy Roeske and Christy Price. Educated at Buchtel High School, Sheryl graduated in 1965. She went on to pursue a career as a celebrated and highly decorated bus driver at Metro RTA in 1978 until her retirement in 2012. Her 34 career was marked by her dedication and triumphs. She competed in many bus rodeos, trained numerous other drivers, drove for the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002 and was honored as Driver of the Year in Ohio in 2004. Honored with the Day of June 30th 2004 in Cuyahoga Falls and the day of July 12th 2004 in Akron as Sheryl Symons Day. Sheryl was known for decorating her bus for every occasion, spreading cheer with candy and joy, and always dressing in festive costumes and holiday attire. Sheryl enjoyed loudly cheering for her Cleveland sports teams. Her love for her pets was only matched by her joy in attending family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Her compassionate nature and infinite support made her a beacon of love, laughter, and light to everyone around her. Sheryl's generous spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation to honor Sheryl's life will be held on October 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM followed by a service at 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Rose Hill Funeral Home, located at 3653 West Market St, Akron, OH.
