The world lost a vibrant and cherished soul as Sherry (Sharon) Lashway passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and relentless dedication. Born on July 3, 1956, in Watertown, NY, Sherry was the beloved daughter of the late Jim Montrois and Mary McPhilmy Belden. She is predeceased by her sister, Karen Montrois, and now joins them in eternal rest.
Sherry's life was a tapestry of dedication, joy, and unforgettable moments. She grew up in Watertown, NY, where she graduated from Watertown High School in 1974. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Canton, NY, where she earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in 1976. It was the beginning of a remarkable journey that saw her touch countless lives through her professional and personal endeavors.
In 1974, Sherry began her career as a short-order cook at the Chez Paris in Alexandria Bay, NY, and also served as a lifeguard at the village beach, embodying the spirit of service and care. Her journey in the professional world took a significant turn in 1978 when she embarked on a Federal career at Fort Drum, NY, as a temporary clerk in the Civilian Personnel Office. Her innate talent and unyielding dedication saw her rise through the ranks to become the Chief of Labor and Employee Relations, a position she held with pride before relocating to Jupiter, FL, in 1996.
Sherry's career continued to flourish at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Her expertise in Human Resources, particularly in Labor and Employee Relations, was instrumental in resolving disciplinary actions, complaints, and grievances, making her an invaluable asset to her team. Over her 34.5-year career, Sherry earned numerous commendations, awards, and medals, reflecting her commitment and passion for her work. Her retirement in June 2013 marked the end of an era of professionalism and dedication.
Beyond her professional life, Sherry was a beacon of positivity and joy. Fondly known as "Sandbar Sherry," her love for boating and the water was unmatched. With her partner, Ned Picard, she spent countless days at Peanut Island, capturing memories through her lens as the unofficial photographer. Her colorful hats, sunglasses, and jewelry were as vibrant as her spirit, and her photographs became cherished mementos for her friends.
Sherry's family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind her loving partner, Ned Picard, her devoted children, Natalie (Ryan Bower) Lashway and Brent Lashway, and her treasured grandchildren, Khloe Alvarez, Blake & Brody Lashway, and Brynn Bower. Her siblings, David (Jayne) Montrois and Chris (John) Powers, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends, particularly those from Peanut Island, will forever remember her warmth and kindness.
Sherry was an active member of Christ Fellowship Church and served as a leader in her community, contributing as President and Board member of the Home Owners Association at Mariners Cove. Her contributions and spirit enriched the lives of those around her, and her legacy will continue to inspire.
In honoring Sherry's vibrant life, her family plans a celebration at the Waterway Cafe or a bar/restaurant on Singer Island, a place that encapsulates her love for the water and sunshine.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at ?????? for their compassionate and professional care of Sherry in her final days.
