Sherry Saffer

Sherry Saffer, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved grandmother, peacefully departed this world on August 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends at her home. Born on August 9, 1958, in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, New York, Sherry was the treasured daughter of Florence and Ira Saffer, both of whom predeceased her. At a young age, Sherry and her family moved to Los Angeles, where she blossomed academically and personally. She completed her early education at Dixie Canyon Avenue Elementary, Millikan Junior High (now Louis Armstrong Middle School), and Grant High School, graduating in 1975. She continued her pursuit of knowledge at UCLA, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1979, and furthered her studies at Southwestern Law School, graduating in 1983 with distinction. Sherry's legal career was as impressive as it was impactful. She excelled as a civil litigator for more than two decades, working her way from a small firm to a national law firm, before co-founding Steiner & Saffer, where she specialized in art-related legal matters. Known for her dedication and integrity, Sherry was a "bar junkie," actively serving on the boards of the Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA), California Young Lawyers Association (CYLA), and as president of the BHBA Barristers. Her esteemed work on the JNE Commission, evaluating judicial nominees for the governor's appointment secretary, was a testament to her sharp legal acumen. Sherry's legal career took an unexpected turn when a brain tumor left her deaf in her left ear. Embracing this challenge with grace, she transitioned into her role as a stay-at-home mom, which allowed her to devote herself fully to her daughters, Samantha Garfield Attias and Jessica Garfield. Her involvement with their schools and her temple, serving as an officer of the parent association and on the temple board of governors, was marked by her unwavering commitment and leadership. Sherry's greatest passion was her family. She was a dedicated caretaker, lovingly tending to her parents and mother-in-law in their later years, and navigating the joys and challenges of parenting adult children. Her love for her family was profound, and she cherished every moment spent with her four grandchildren. Her enduring partnership with her husband, Bruce Garfield, whom she met in law school, was a testament to a deep and abiding love. Married on October 16, 1994, their union was a source of strength and happiness for over 32 years. Beyond her family and career, Sherry found joy in a variety of interests. She loved traveling, cooking, exercising, hiking, gardening, watching the Dodgers, and engaging with word games and books. Known for her integrity, Sherry believed in keeping her word and committing fully to her endeavors, values she instilled in her children. Sherry is survived by her husband Bruce, their daughters Samantha and Jessica, her sister Gail Stern, and brother David Saffer. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, who will carry forward the lessons and love she so generously imparted. Sherry would have wanted you to celebrate her life and hopes that a small part of her lives on within each of you. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
