For 32 years, she dedicated her professional life to the University of California at Berkeley where she worked as a custodian, retiring in 2008. She also, was an active member of the UC Berkeley bowling league, where she formed cherished friendships and shared many joyful moments.
An artist at heart, Sherry found joy sketching and drawing, capturing the beauty of nature in her artwork. Her love for outdoors were further expressed through her hobbies of camping, and visiting places like Cache Creek Casino. Above all, her garden was her sanctuary, where she found peace in planting flowers and vegetables. Sherry's culinary skills were legendary and her kitchen was always open to family and friends, who delighted in both her delicious meals and her generous hospitality.
Sherry had a gift for making the holiday's magical. Each Christmas, she transformed her home with festive decorations and filled the air with the sounds of Christmas music, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for her loved ones. Her gatherings were filled with love, laughter, and the spirit of giving, and she shared food and gifts with everyone.
Today we celebrate the homegoing of Sherry's life held this day on September 24, 2026, here at The Fairfield Funeral Home, located at 1750 Pennsylvania Ave in Fairfield, CA. 94533.
As we say goodbye to Sherry, we find comfort in the words Psalm 23: The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For you are with me; Your rod and staff they comfort me; You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies ; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. And so it is!
So, as we gather to remember Sherry Lynn McCowan, and her presences with us, may we carry forward and forever her legacy of love, kindness, and joy while cherishing the moments we shared with this remarkable woman.
Thanks for the opportunity to share this moment with all of you!
