September 27, 1962 — March 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sherri Lynne Garland, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world on March 28, 2026, at the age of 63. Sherri left us after a long and courageous battle with illnesses, demonstrating strength and resilience that inspired all who knew her. She was surrounded by family, embraced by love, as she took her final breath. Born on September 27, 1962, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sherri was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her life. Her journey was marked by her deep passion for creativity and her unwavering dedication to her family and community. After attending Collins College, she obtained a Bachelor's degree in graphic design, a testament to her commitment to lifelong learning and artistic expression. Sherri's career was as diverse and vibrant as her personality. She wore many hats, from working as a waitress to traversing the open roads as a truck driver. Eventually, she found her true calling in graphic design, where she used her talents at Bunker Family Funeral Home to create beautiful brochures and celebration of life pamphlets. Her work brought comfort to many, showcasing her innate ability to turn compassion into a tangible form. A lover of cooking, Sherri found joy in experimenting with new recipes and watching cooking videos. Her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of fresh-baked goods and hearty meals, especially during the Christmas season. Christmas was a time of magic for Sherri; she delighted in decorating, wrapping presents, and preparing a festive dinner for her loved ones, creating memories that her family will cherish forever. Sherri's life was enriched by her three grandchildren, Kaylee Oswood (20), Jarod Oswood (19), and Derik Metz (1), each of whom held a special place in her heart. She also shared a unique bond with Jarod's wife, Sienna Oswood (19). Her sons, Justin Metz (42) and Shawn Metz (40), along with Shawn's fiancée, Katherine Holmes (35), were her pride and joy. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and support, where she served as the neighborhood mom to all her sons' friends. Her door was always open, her shoulder always ready to lean on, and her heart forever generous. Sherri was an avid note-taker, capturing the details of life in a way that reflected her thoughtful and detail-oriented nature. She relished trips to the movies with friends and family, cherishing every moment spent in the company of those she loved. In honoring Sherri's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate her life and the indelible mark she leaves on the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her legacy of warmth, creativity, and resilience will continue to inspire her family and all who had the privilege of calling her a friend. As we say goodbye to Sherri, let us remember the love she shared and the joy she brought into our lives. Her spirit will forever shine brightly, guiding us through the days ahead, just as she did in life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sherri's name to a charity of your choice, spreading the same kindness and warmth she so effortlessly shared with the world.
