Shelva "Jean" Love

September 1, 1942 — August 11, 2026

Shelva "Jean" Love, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2026, in the comforting presence of her family, including her five cherished children. Born on September 1, 1942, in Elk Garden, WV, Jean was the dearly loved daughter of Carl William Dawson and Marguerite Belle Mayles Dawson. Jean's life was a testament to devotion and kindness. She met the love of her life, Charles "Joe" Love, while working at The White Coffee Pot in Baltimore. Their love story led them to West Virginia, where they made a warm and loving home for their children. Jean was a dedicated mother to Joseph Love; Jeff Love and his wife, Betty; Brian Love and Tarrah; April Sachs and her husband, Billy; and Michael Love and his wife, Kayla. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren: Hope Love; Tosha Love and Dan; Jeffrey Love and Charles; Brandon Love and Kayla; Sierra Lintz and Coty; Raven Love; Tyler Love; Nicole Love; Justin Sachs; Josh Sachs and Kaylee; Keirsten Sachs; and Mikenna, Jonah, and Weston Love. Her legacy continues through her ten great-grandchildren. A 1961 graduate of Elk Garden High School, Jean's early career began at The White Coffee Pot, but her true calling was her family. She devoted her life to raising her children, imparting values of love and compassion. In her later years, Jean extended her nurturing care to the elderly, offering comfort and companionship to those in need. Jean's faith was an integral part of her life. A longtime member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Keyser, WV, she found community and solace within its walls. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on her community. Jean is survived by her sister, Edith Beeman, and is predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Dolly Baker, Patricia Tasker, and Janice Sharpless. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-laws, Florence "Penny" Anstine and Kathleen Gorton, and her brother-in-law, Gary Love. A funeral service in celebration of Jean's life will be held at 2:00 PM on August 17, 2026, at Smith Funeral Home, 85 S Main St, Keyser, WV 26726. Friends and family will be received from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of one's choice, in honor of Jean's generous spirit. Jean's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time.
